Arsenal
Interview - 02/03/2004 |
This week's featured team of the NPPL
Super 7 World Series is the newest professional team out there,
team Arsenal. I had the opportunity of asking team captain and co-owner
JC Whittington all about this newly beloved team, and he was kind
enough to really break it all down for us.
For more information on the team, please contact JC Whittington
at jcwhitti@yahoo.com. He
recommends interviewing Markus, Travis and Kenny as "they all
had to make sacrifices and leave their homes to come to the frozen
tundra, that I like to call Maryland." (JC Whittington).
When and
how did the formation of ARSENAL take place? When did you decide
to leave Bad Company to start a new team and why?
After six years of playing with Bad Company, I was fortunate to
have received several offers to join one of the top programs in
tournament paintball. Leaving Company was not an easy decision for
me, however, I knew it was time for me to take more control of my
career. In November of 2003, I began talks with Jason Andrae and
Tommy Fore, co-owner of Next Level Factory Team and with Art Helmick
of team ECX . In December, we brought in Markus Nielsen to join
us as a key member of the team. Markus moved to Maryland from California
in January 2004. Marcus is focused on showing off his strengths
as a player, his commitment to this team, and his desire to win.
Who
is currently on the team roster?
JC Whittington, Jason Andrae, Markus Nielsen, Kenny Klamper, Travis
Day, Wayne Davis, Brenden Wright, Mikey Salas.
What
is your role with the team JC?
Captain and Co-owner.
Sponsors
for 2004?
WDP Major sponsor (Guns and Clothing)
Next Level Products (Cash)
Edge Machine (Cash, Manufacturing partnership)
(Paint) Still unclear
ACI (Tanks)
Check it (Barrels, Rails, On/Off)
ECX Action Sports (Cash)
Where
will Arsenal be playing this year?
NPPL Super 7 World Series, PSP 10 Man, Amsterdam, France. We will
go wherever our sponsors want us to go.
Where
will Arsenal be practicing most of the time?
Practice will be primarily at Outdoor Adventures in Bowie and at
Del Hobbies in New Jersey.
Being
a new team, what do you feel Arsenal will become known for?
Arsenal will be a dynamic and an aggressive team. We plan to dominate
the field. Since our roster has the experience and the individual
skills to beat any other team, my main focus is on building and
maintaining the team's chemistry and communication skills.
Tell
us about the name
what makes "Arsenal" a fit for
your team?
Coming up with a good name is almost as hard as coming up with good
players. Tommy, Jason and I kicked around about fifty options until
Jason came up with our name. It is funny, a name needs time to grow
on you before it becomes part of your identity. The term Arsenal
is defined as a storehouse of weapons, however, it also means: a
house of manufacture. In keeping with our name, we will be involved
in developing some new products for our sponsors this year.
What
are your personal goals with Arsenal?
My goal is to help grow Arsenal into a solid professional franchise
which will be based out of the Greater Washington, DC area. All
of our players will be required to live and work in Maryland.
What
type of image would you like Arsenal to take on?
This is a tough one. Our goal is to build a professional franchise.
Arsenal is full of sharp and aggressive players. Our image will
ultimately depend on our performance and our professionalism in
public. You can count on the fact that we are going to give 100%
to winning every game, every day.
