Players of all levels had the chance to match up against a true paintball champion at Cousins Indoor Paintball in Hauppauge, NY. “Bring your own paint” nights usually draw regular rec-ballers, first-timers and local tournament teams like Midget Mafia and 7-Below to the huge 40,000-square foot facility. But last Monday, from 6 to 10 p.m., Bea Youngs, formerly of the Femme Fatales and now with pro-team Destiny, came to play with the usual crowd.

Bea gave everyone tips. She showed players how to hold the gun so the hopper doesn’t stick out, and showed one new player how to stay in tight against the bunker. “You have a really nice gun,” she told one 10-year-old player. “Use it! You have to lay down a stream of paint. It doesn’t matter if you don’t hit him, you want to keep him down.”

Most importantly, she taught by example. Playing game after game from the Center Back position, Bea held each makeshift team together with her great communication skills.

When you play with Bea, you know she’s got your back.

Dominica Steele, a young female player who looks to Bea as a role model, said it best when she observed, “Bea has the attitude of a good coach. She’s got the patience to help people. You’re not nervous when you’re playing with Bea.”

After the games, Bea autographed posters and flyers for her fans. Even after a long day, she had a smile and a kind word for everyone.

For many players, the opportunity to meet Bea formed the memory of a lifetime. “It was amazing!” exclaimed Alex Cristman of the Midget Mafia. “Bea Youngs has had an affect on my life that will last forever.”
